About Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria and it is by far the largest city in Austria, as well as its cultural, economic and political centre.

It is regarded as the “City of Music” because of its musical legacy from the great age of Viennese Classicism. Many notable musicians were born in Vienna, including Johann Strauss I, Johann Strauss II, Falco, Franz Schubert, Gerhard Potuznik, Louie Austen, Arnold Schönberg, and Fritz Kreisler. Notable musicians who came here to work from other parts of Austria and Germany were Johann Joseph Fux, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahsms, Gustav Mahler and Joseph Haydn.

The Historic centre of Vienna is rich in architectural ensembles, including Baroque Castles and Gardens, as well as the late 19th century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.

This explains why Vienna stands out among other European tourist destinations for being a “new old city” a city in transition from an older “picture city” like Florence and Venice to being a global city like Paris and London.

Climate in Vienna:

Summer is when Vienna is at its warmest, with temperatures reach an average high of 25°C and an amazingly high chance of rain when compared to the spring and autumn months, though the rain does nothing to cool the high temperature.

Winter in Vienna runs spans from December until February with January being the coldest month. The temperatures can fall to as low as -3°C and there are only two hours of sunlight on an average day. The cold is also compounded by snowfall, strong winds and some patches of rain.

Autumn and spring in Vienna are times of the year that are filled with colour with temperatures quite cool and comparatively mild to those winter days. There is an average high of 9°C at the start of spring and end of autumn, with temperatures as high as 22°C at the end of spring and start of autumn. In spring and autumn there is much less precipitation than during the winter months.
